MANCHESTER, NH, February 25, 2005 – Donald V. Hale, CPCU, CLU, has been named Chief Operating Officer for workers’ compensation specialty writer MEMIC Indemnity Company.

In assuming the new title, Hale will continue to manage underwriting and account marketing for MEMIC Indemnity Company and its parent, Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC), based in Portland, Maine. In that role, Hale is senior vice president for underwriting.

MEMIC Indemnity Company, rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best, is now licensed in 6 states, including New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania. In addition, the company now has license applications pending all along the Eastern Seaboard to Florida.

“This company has a great future as it continues to grow down the East Coast within its specialty of workers’ compensation.” Leonard said. “We have a great product and it’s meeting a great reception from customers. Don will focus on helping us to continue in that direction.”

Since its inception five years ago, MEMIC Indemnity Company has focused its efforts on New Hampshire and Vermont. In 2005, the company will look to increase its writings in others states, particularly Connecticut.

Hale, who joined MEMIC in 1993, has a bachelor’s degree in insurance from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s in insurance management from Boston University. He has earned professional designation as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).
