James Burke

Safety Management Consultant

Construction, General VA

"Safety has been my passion since entering the industry after experiencing a serious workplace incident. The culture within a company can either make or break its success. Therefore, it is essential for management to prioritize the development of a positive culture. Key steps for developing and maintaining such a culture include creating a work environment based on mutual respect, providing opportunities for growth, establishing company values, setting achievable and measurable goals, and fostering knowledge and relationships.”

James is an experienced adult trainer who provides a wide variety of safety and health training courses in both the construction and general industries. He is also a co-founder of the Associated General Contractors of Virginia safety alliance and has previously worked as an Emergency Medical Technician.

With over 22 years of experience in occupational safety management, consulting, and loss control across various industries such as millworking and metal fabrication, James transitioned from safety management to risk management and loss control consulting 12 years ago, working with all lines of insurance. Recently, James returned to his passion for occupational safety, safety training, program development, and culture development with MEMIC.
