Welding is essential to construction, manufacturing, and repair work, but it also presents serious hazards, including burns, eye injuries, toxic fume exposure, electric shock, and hearing loss. Most welding accidents can be prevented through proper hazard awareness, use of appropriate PPE, a clean and well-ventilated work environment, routine equipment inspections, and emergency preparedness. By investing in training and fostering a strong safety culture, organizations can reduce risks, improve productivity, and ensure every worker returns home safely. Every weld matters - and so does every worker.

Doing What's Right When it Comes to Safety Leadership

June 10

• Leadership and Safety Culture

Safety leadership means choosing people over convenience, even under pressure. Leaders shape culture through everyday decisions—stopping work, investing in better controls, and addressing hazards early. By prioritizing real risk reduction, encouraging reporting without blame, and modeling safe behaviors, leaders build trust and resilience. Safety isn’t just compliance; it impacts lives, families, and performance. When leaders consistently do what’s right instead of what’s easy, safe work becomes the norm and results improve sustainably.

Your Footwear Was Non Slip… Is It Still?

May 27

• Slips Trips and Falls
• Outdoor Safety

Non-slip footwear is not a permanent safety solution. While new slip-resistant shoes offer peak traction through specialized tread and rubber compounds, wear gradually reduces their effectiveness. Tread edges smooth, channels clog or shallow, and rubber hardens, often without obvious visual cues.

Inspection: The Missing Connection in Electrical Safety

May’s National Electrical Safety Month is a reminder that training and PPE alone do not keep workers safe. While NFPA 70E training, equipment, and arc flash studies are essential, they only set expectations. NFPA 70E requires regular program audits and annual field work inspections to verify work is performed as intended. Inspections reveal the gap between procedures and real-world practices, where risk exists. When leadership consistently inspects electrical work and acts on findings, safety expectations become reality.
