As part of MSHA's 30 CFR Part 46 training regulations, all sand and gravel pit workers must have an 8-hour safety course once a year.  This workshop will review important safety-related topics including recognition and prevention of hazards, required personal protective equipment, miner's health, material handling, and confined space entry requirements.

As a result of this one day course, participants will have the ability to:

  • Identify key hazards associated with changing conditions at open pit mines.
  • Describe methods to protect workers from noise and dust exposure.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize hazards related to open pit mining.
  • Give examples of methods to eliminate or minimize hazards related to open pit mining.
  • To fully meet the requirements of Part 46, attendees will still need to complete training relevant to the specific hazards of their respective operations.
