Zach Phelan

Loss Control Consultant I, GSP

General, Construction ME

“Workplace safety is my passion. Growing up, my parents both worked in health care and inspired me to want to help people in my own profession. Workplace safety is similar, working with businesses to ensure proactive steps are taken to create a safe work environment and prevent serious loss to employers, employees, and their families. In my experience, I’ve found that open communication and buy-in from the top down is the most effective approach when it comes to improving the safety culture and reducing loss. When employee concerns are valued by leadership, and businesses prioritize transparent communication at all levels, then morale, production, and quality will flourish.”

Zach comes to MEMIC with four years of occupational health and safety experience, specializing in general industry and maritime construction. Most recently, he worked as a Safety Engineer for one of Maine’s largest ship builders.

Zach holds Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and earned his Bachelor of Science in Safety Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Science in Occupational Safety & Health Management from Indiana State University.
