MEMIC Ranks as Best in P/C Insurance

PORTLAND, Maine, October 26, 2010 – A nationwide survey of 7,800 insurance agents ranked MEMIC as the top insurer in the property-casualty insurance industry on a range of measures including customer service and overall ease of doing business.

Massachusetts-based research firm Deep Customer Connections (DCC) released its annual survey on which insurance agents ranked 200 property casualty insurance companies in October. According to DCC, MEMIC finished in a virtual tie for first place with Acuity Insurance and West Bend Mutual, both of Wisconsin. MEMIC was the only workers’ compensation specialist among the top 10 in the survey.

"MEMIC employees put a tremendous effort into providing good customer service to our agents and policyholders," said MEMIC President and CEO John T. Leonard. "This top ranking shows that performance truly matters particularly during a time when the industry is working within a very difficult economy. Our development of a solid technology platform, combined with expertise of our staff, enables us to grow successfully as we expand our marketing territory beyond the Northeast."

DCC’s annual survey examines insurer performance in 11 separate categories including overall responsiveness, fairness and timeliness in handling claims, information technology, and insurance expertise. According to DCC, these are key factors in how agents make decisions about whom their customers should buy their insurance.

MEMIC is the leading workers’ compensation insurer in Maine and is among the top five in the New England. The company is also New York’s fastest growing workers’ comp insurer among the top 50 in that state.  The MEMIC Group, including Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company and MEMIC Indemnity Company, holds licenses to write workers’ compensation in 45 states plus the District of Columbia.
