PORTLAND, ME, October 16, 2008—MEMIC was named a Best Place to Work in Maine for the third consecutive year in a competition sponsored by SHRM Maine State Council.

At its 2008 awards ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center, MEMIC finished third among 18 finalists in the small/medium category. In past years, the company had finished fourth in the competition.

The competition is scored in two ways. Twenty-five percent of the score is based upon a company questionnaire regarding human resources policies and procedures as well as salary and benefit information. The remaining 75 percent of the score is based upon an anonymous, 65-question employee survey. The survey and scoring process is managed by independent analysts from the Best Companies Group which conducts similar programs around the country.

Despite being a finalist for each of the past two years, in 2008, MEMIC continued to look for ways to enhance its offerings to its employees. To that end, the company has recently boosted its employee-driven wellness effort, established an extensive new set of professional development programs, offered an advanced management development program for aspiring leaders and enhanced its internal communications efforts through its Intranet and its internal video network.
