MEMIC Hires LaCrosse as Safety Management Consultant and Romano as Vice President, Corporate Risk Officer

PORTLAND, Maine – Jason LaCrosse has been appointed a Safety Management Consultant by workers’ compensation specialist The MEMIC Group.

LaCrosse began his career in the military starting off as a flight medic before becoming a Blackhawk Instructor Pilot and Aviation Safety Officer. He retired from the US Army with 21 years of active duty service and went on to fly Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Dartmouth Hitchcock and Lifeflight of Maine. He later worked for Northrop Grumman in Saudi Arabia teaching the Saudi National Guard about Aviation and Ground Safety.

LaCrosse is currently enrolled in Columbia Southern University where he is due to graduate this December with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health and will also be receiving his Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation. In 2020 LaCrosse will begin his Master of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health at Columbia Southern University. LaCrosse is a graduate of the Army’s Aviation Safety Officer Course and the National Transportation Safety Boards’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Course.

LaCrosse is originally from Waldoboro, Maine and currently lives in Augusta. LaCrosse is married to his wife Michaela of 24 years and has three children and three grandchildren.

In addition, James Romano has been appointed to Vice President/Corporate Risk Officer. He will oversee risk operations and provide an integrated risk management framework. He also is responsible for the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program within the group which assesses and mitigates competitive, regulatory, and technological threats to the group’s capital and earnings. 

Prior to joining MEMIC, Romano was Executive Vice President at Fiduciary Investment Advisors in Connecticut. In addition, he worked for more than a decade at Conning, an investment management firm, where he served as Chief Risk Officer and Head of Risk Solutions. Romano also has worked at The Travelers in Hartford, Connecticut as a Financial Analyst.

Romano graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Master of Science degree in Finance. He has earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
