MEMIC Employees Focus Giving on Health, Family and Animal Welfare
PORTLAND, ME, January 19, 2018 – When Michael Bourque, president and chief executive officer of The MEMIC Group, announced that all 400 employees of the specialty workers’ compensation insurance company may each direct $100 to a 501c3 charity that captured their hearts, he had no idea where the charitable contributions would go.
MEMIC employees chose to give to a wide variety of nonprofits from the Utah Food Bank to Santuario de Animales San Fransisco De Asís in Puerto Rico. Health, family and animal welfare were the top causes of the 245 nonprofits across the country that MEMIC employees chose for their charitable contributions, with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland receiving the most contributions.
“MEMIC has a long tradition of community engagement and we thought this would be a great way for our employees to mark the beginning of our 25th anniversary year,” said Bourque. “It’s important for each employee to feel their voice is heard at MEMIC and in their community.”
