PORTLAND, Maine, July 27, 2001 – Donald V. Hale, Jr. has been appointed Vice President, Underwriting for Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC).
Hale, who has worked with the company since 1993, will head up the company's underwriting operations as well as direct its relationship with its independent insurance agency sales force.
"We're delighted to make this appointment," MEMIC President and CEO John T. Leonard said. "Don's experience in the Maine market and his existing relationship with our agency force made him a natural. We had an obligation to our policyholders to do a national search for a new underwriting vice president which we completed last week. But our search simply proved what we had suspected all along - the best candidate was right at MEMIC."
Hale's insurance career spans four decades, including more than 20 years of management experience within the insurance industry. He earned his bachelor's degree in insurance and business from the University of Rhode Island. He has earned professional designations as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Life Underwriter (CLU). He is a licensed insurance agent in 45 states.
At MEMIC, Hale served as an Executive Underwriter and as Director of Underwriting. Before that he worked for American International Group (AIG) in the northeast and, previously, for Home Insurance Group. For five years he managed an insurance agency in Greater Portland.
Hale resides in Portland with his wife, Joanne, and his daughters, Heather and Lauren.
