One of the biggest challenges in maintaining a Safe Patient/Resident Handling and Movement Program is determining where to store the lift equipment/devices. Finding storage locations for floor lifts and lift accessories can be like finding a needle in a haystack! Staff have reported that the inability to locate lift equipment is one of their greatest barriers in using equipment that can promote better patient/resident care.

The intent of this session is to highlight space management and storage challenges that lift equipment presents within facilities and how Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS] regulatory changes, Waivers for Use of Specific Requirements of NFPA 101-2012, may prove useful in promoting and enhancing staff use of mechanical lift devices.
