IT Senior Network Administrator

Job Location: Portland, ME


General Summary
Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external networks. Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security and network configurations. Troubleshoots network performance issues and creates and maintains a disaster recovery plan. Recommends and installs upgrades, patches, new applications and equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to users. Maintains the VMware environment. Requires 4 – 6 recent years of experience working with LAN/WAN’s. Familiar with the concepts, practices and procedures of a fast and changing environment. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. It is expected that the varieties of tasks are accomplished with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.  


  • Works with the Network Operations Manager to manage servers which will include patch management. 
  • Manages all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, servers and storage, as well as oversee installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software and peripheral devices.
  • Manages the virtual environment using VMware.
  • Conducts research on network/server/storage products, services, protocols and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions and access rights, as well as performing server and security audits, system backups and recovery.
  • Monitors and tests network performance and provide network/server performance statistics and reports.
  • Produces professional project plans for recommended network improvements, upgrades and repairs. This would include scheduling resources and back out plans.
  • Develops, implements and maintains network policies and procedures while practicing network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Ensures network connectivity of all workstations and administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades while performing network design and capacity planning.
  • Provides guidance to other members of the team.



  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3-5 recent years of experience supporting Cisco LAN/WAN/Wireless devices, network administration and network security or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Cisco ASA Firewall experience and certifications in VCP, MCSE, CCNA or CCNP are a plus.
  • Minimum 3-5 recent years working with Windows operating systems. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server Environments. This includes Active Directory, DNS and DHCP Management. SQL Management a plus. Experience with Desktop deployment processes, mobile phone management and hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
  • Support experience with SQL and SQL clusters.
  • Knowledge of EMC SAN technology. Ability to maintain existing storage setup.
  • VMWARE Environment Management. Ability to build and maintain virtual machines. Understanding of VM file structure and replication.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed. 9. Keen attention to detail and have the ability to follow corporate protocol which includes strict change management of all implementations.
