Rob Sylvester, Safety Management Consultant
“There is no doubt that proper claims management is invaluable. However, the real return on investment is in the prevention of injuries. By ensuring we have a safe work force and accountability at all levels of leadership, we can ensure we will have a decrease in our losses and end the vicious cycle of decreased morale along with days away from work and decreased number of front line staff.”
Rob has over 24 years of experience in the health and safety field. During his career, he has worked with a wide range of industries from military, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and special needs populations. Most recently, Rob worked with a large healthcare network which encompassed long term care, acute care, and ancillary services in the community. During this time, he championed their new Safe Patient Handling program. Rob also comes to MEMIC with lots of emergency management experience. He likes to use his talents to educate employees at all levels to realize that what they do has an effect on not only their job, but on those around them. Rob starts with helping leadership ensure they provide the “tools to succeed” because without this base, a program cannot be successful.
With over two decades of active and reserve service, including many years providing medical care to Marine Corps infantry, Rob currently serves as the command Master Chief (E9) of Operational Health Support Unit, Portsmouth, VA, in the Navy Reserves. He is responsible for all enlisted matters and provides guidance to the Commanding Officer for nearly 600 Sailors at thirteen detachments in six states.
Rob is a member of the Mohawk Valley Safety Professionals Consortium and the Central NY Society of Health Care Engineers. He earned an Associate’s degree in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences from Touro University. He is a New York State Certified Code Enforcement Official, Certified Internal Auditor for ISO 9001-2008, and is a Certified Environmental Health Technician (CEHT) by the National Environmental Health Association.
